About SkinSteps
An independent guide to minecraft skins, written to be tested, dated and honest about what does not work.
SkinSteps is a small independent site about one narrow thing: getting a skin onto your minecraft character and understanding the file behind it. We started it because most skin guides are written once and never touched again, so they still point at menus that moved years ago.
How we check things
We verify each set of steps against the current Minecraft Launcher and game before we publish, and we print the date we last checked. When behaviour differs by edition — and skins differ a lot between Java and Bedrock — we split the steps out rather than blur them together. Where we could not fully confirm something, such as an edge case on a specific console, we say so plainly instead of guessing.
Our art is original
Every character, template and screen illustration on this site is drawn from scratch. Skins made by the community — the ones you find on skin-sharing sites — belong to the people who made them, so we do not copy, host or republish them. The example skins we show, including our mascot, are our own work and exist only to demonstrate a step.
What we will not do
We do not link to “free Minecoins” generators, account sellers or anything that asks you to log in with your Microsoft credentials on a third-party page. Those are how accounts get stolen. Skins are free to make and free to apply; the only things that ever cost money are official Marketplace packs and Minecoins, and we say clearly when a link is an affiliate link.
Not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft
SkinSteps is a fan-made guide and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Mojang Studios or Microsoft. “Minecraft” is their trademark; we use the word only to describe what these guides cover. If that is what brought you here, the best place to begin is how to change your minecraft skin.
